Recognising the Contributions of Women in Manufacturing
Women at Magtec play pivotal roles in every facet of manufacturing, says Andrew Gilligan, Managing Director of Magtec—from engineering, design, and software development to quality assurance, health and safety, and leadership. Their expertise and passion for innovation are driving cutting-edge technologies, such as software innovations in electric vehicle drive systems, while also helping to shape the future of our company.
Breaking Barriers and Changing Perceptions
The increasing participation of women in manufacturing is transforming outdated stereotypes and inspiring future generations to pursue careers in engineering and manufacturing. Women are proving that the sector values problem-solving and technical skills—qualities in which they excel. Manufacturing has evolved into a dynamic and creative industry, driven by automation, robotics, and digitalisation. Historically, however, manufacturing was seen as a field too physically demanding and technical for women.
Celebrating Women Leading Change at Magtec
Jenny Peel, Finance Director at Magtec, recognises the immense value that diversity brings to the sector:

Encouraging More Women into Manufacturing
To attract and retain more women in manufacturing, we need to foster cultural change, implement supportive policies, and create strong educational pathways. Apprenticeships, STEM initiatives, and mentorship programmes are critical in inspiring young women to pursue careers in manufacturing. Schools and universities must promote engineering and technical careers, showcasing the exciting, rewarding opportunities the industry offers.
Additionally, organisations must create inclusive environments where women can thrive. Flexible working arrangements, career development programmes, and leadership training opportunities are essential to ensuring women not only join the industry but continue to advance within it.
