Magtec has celebrated Armed Forces Day 2024, a national show of support and appreciation for the men and women who make up the armed forces community: from currently serving personnel to service families, veterans and cadets.

At Magtec, we’re proud to employ many veterans, including former members of the British Army, Royal Air Force and Royal Navy. We support those who served our nation by helping them transfer their valuable skills to rewarding roles in our fast-growing business.

This year, Magtec signed the Armed Forces Covenant, a voluntary pledge to recognise the contribution that service personnel and their families make to the company, community and country. Our managing director Andrew Gilligan signed the covenant alongside engineering director Andy Sloan, a former senior engineer in the Royal Navy submarine service.

Magtec’s commitment to the armed forces community includes:

  • Achieving the bronze award in the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme
  • Offering support to service leavers
  • Regularly attending covenant events
  • Joining Troopr, a platform for ex-military opportunities.

As a longstanding supplier to the UK Ministry of Defence, Magtec:

  • Supports the British Army’s assessment of hybrid and electric drive systems for future battlefields (see the Jackal in our picture)
  • Works closely with NP Aerospace to build land defence capability
  • Will showcase our work at the Future Armoured Vehicles Power Systems conference in September.

Andy Sloan, engineering director, said: “Veterans bring invaluable skills to our team, from technical expertise to leadership and problem-solving abilities honed in challenging environments.

“Their ‘can-do’ attitude and adaptability drive innovation in electric drive technology for both civilian and military applications, making them crucial to our growth and success.”

Armed Forces Day takes place on the last Saturday each June, falling this year on June 29.
