On Wednesday, 26th March, students from Doncaster UTC visited Magtec, the UK’s leading manufacturer of electric vehicle drive systems, for an exclusive behind-the-scenes experience. The visit, held from 9:00 AM to 12:30 PM, introduced eight ‘Computer Science’ and six ‘Engineering’ students from Year 12 and 13 to the world of electric vehicle innovation.
The day began with a presentation in Magtec’s canteen, where students learned about the company’s pioneering work in EV drive systems and repower solutions. After the introduction, students split into two groups for tailored sessions:
Engineering Students:
- Tour of Magtec 2 – A look at EV manufacturing and assembly.
- Telematics Demo & Apprenticeship Discussion – Exploring vehicle data and career pathways.
- Tour of Magtec 1 – Observing component integration in EVs.
Computer Science Students:
- Telematics Demo & Apprenticeship Discussion – Insights into software applications in EV technology.
- Tour of Magtec 1 – Understanding software integration in vehicle systems.
- Tour of Magtec 2 – Exploring the engineering behind EV manufacturing.
The visit ended with a group photo session, marking a successful and inspiring experience for the students.
This collaboration highlights the commitment of Magtec and Doncaster College to bridging education with real-world industry exposure, helping students gain valuable insights into careers in engineering and technology.
