Dave’s Epic Stepathon: Mud, Sweat, and Cheers!

Talk about smashing it! Our very own Dave Mitchell (RMA Technician extraordinaire) just crushed his 8000 steps a day challenge, and boy, does he have stories to tell!

Picture this: Day 27, Dave’s cruising along when—SPLAT!—he does what he calls a full “Dawn French” into a muddy puddle, twisting his ankle with 8 miles still to go. Most of us would’ve called an Uber right there, but not our Dave! He limped his heroic way back, grimacing but determined.

The bloke was seriously committed, squeezing in steps during lunch breaks and after clocking off. There was just one hiccup—his phone was

s! For perspective, that’s like walking from our Sheffield plant to Birmingham and then some. Not bad for a month’s work, eh?

being stingy with counting steps (typical tech, right?). Enter Louise, Magtec’s unofficial step-counter fairy godmother, who sorted him out with her old device. Problem solved!

Dave didn’t just do boring laps around the car park either. He turned this challenge into a proper Yorkshire tour—stomping through Barton-upon-Humber, getting lost in Worksop, exploring Chesterfield, and even braving the weekend crowds at Meadowhall (now THAT deserves a medal on its own!).

He conquered Langold Lake, admired the snowdrops at Hodsock Priory, checked out the old airfield at RAF Firbeck, and wandered through the gorgeous grounds at Clumber Park.

The numbers? Absolutely mind-blowing. Dave smashed past his target, racking up a staggering 314,971 steps—that’s nearly 180 mile

The fundraising pot for Tommy’s (supporting families affected by pregnancy loss) hit £355 plus £81.25 Gift Aid. While he didn’t quite reach his £500 target, it’s still an impressive haul for such an important cause.

And get this—the man’s already signed up for Country Walking Magazine’s 1000 Miles 2025 Challenge! His legs must be having serious words with him about now.

If you fancy chipping in (his fundraising page is open till the end of April), head over to Dave’s Just Giving Page. As Dave would say between gasps for breath, “I couldn’t have done it without you.”

Now someone please get the man some blister plasters and a pint!
